The Only Chapter Ltd ("we", "us") runs theonlychapter.com. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are. Plain English. No tricks.

1. Who we are

2. What we collect, and why

  • Order details — name, email, shipping address, phone (if you give one), order contents and amount. Needed to fulfil and ship your order. Legal basis: contract.
  • Account info — only if you create one. We use it to show you order history and speed up future checkout. Legal basis: contract.
  • Browsing data — pages viewed, cart actions, broad location (country/city). Helps us improve the site and (if you accept cookies) measure our ads. Legal basis: consent.
  • Marketing data — email opens, clicks, quiz answers (if you take the MyChapter quiz). Only if you've opted in. Legal basis: consent.
  • Customer support — anything you write to us when you ask a question. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

3. Who we share data with

Only third parties strictly needed to run the shop:

  • Shopify — hosts the store and processes payments (PCI-DSS certified).
  • Klaviyo — sends our emails and stores your marketing preferences.
  • Royal Mail / shipping partners — to deliver your order.
  • Meta and TikTok — only if you accept marketing cookies. We send hashed events so they can measure our ads.
  • Our accountants and legal advisors — when strictly required.

We never sell your personal data. We never share it with anyone not listed above.

4. Where data is stored

Shopify and Klaviyo store data in the EU and the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and the UK extension. We chose vendors that meet UK GDPR transfer safeguards.

5. How long we keep it

  • Order data — 7 years (UK tax law).
  • Account data — until you delete the account.
  • Marketing data — until you unsubscribe, then 30 days, then deleted.
  • Support emails — 3 years from the last reply.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us, at any time, to:

  • Tell you what we hold about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete your data (the right to be forgotten)
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Stop processing it for marketing
  • Complain to the UK Information Commissioner if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data

To exercise any of these, email contact@theonlychapter.com. We reply within 30 days, usually faster.

7. Cookies

We use a small set of cookies:

  • Essential — your cart, your login (if you have one). Always on.
  • Analytics — anonymised stats on what pages people read. Only if you accept.
  • Marketing — Meta and TikTok measurement pixels. Only if you accept.

You can change your choice anytime via the cookie banner, or by writing to us.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top whenever this changes. Significant changes also get an email to subscribers.
