Recovery Body Oil, editorial
The layering moment. After the cream. Before bed.
Recovery Body Oil, editorial
Cold-pressed, unrefined. The amber is the carotenoid content, not the marketing.

The formulation

A finishing oil, not a stand-alone.

Post-partum skin loses water faster than it can replace it. The body oils most women reach for sit on top of the skin without addressing the barrier deficit underneath.

Built to layer over the Firming Body Cream, not replace it. The cream delivers the water. The oil locks it in. The way every dermatologist treats dry, post-pregnancy skin in clinic.

What's in it, and why.

Four ingredients carry the work. The supporting cast keeps the texture light and the formula stable.

Squalane

Plant-derived from sustainable sugarcane. Identical to the squalane your skin produces, which means it absorbs in seconds with no residue and no occlusive feel. The first ingredient because it does most of the carrying.

Sea buckthorn

CO2-extracted from Himalayan berries to preserve the actives. The only meaningful source of omega-7 (palmitoleic acid), the fatty acid that rebuilds the lipid barrier post-partum skin is missing. It's also what gives the oil its amber colour.

Rosehip oil

Cold-pressed from Chilean rosehip seeds. Carries trans-retinoic acid precursors at 0.35mg/g, the natural form of Vitamin A that softens scar tissue and stretch-mark texture without the irritation or pregnancy contra-indication of synthetic retinol.

Evening primrose

Gamma-linolenic acid, an omega-6 the body can't make on its own. Stretched and depleted post-pregnancy skin is typically deficient in GLA, restoring it is what brings back suppleness and bounce. Sourced from organic UK seed.

The ritual

How to use.

2-3 pumps warmed between palms, pressed into the driest areas after the Firming Body Cream has absorbed (about 60 seconds). Most useful in winter, in air-conditioned environments, and through the first 3 months post-partum when the skin barrier is most depleted. One bottle lasts about three months of nightly use.

Recovery Body Oil, ingredients and composition

A finishing layer

Two pumps. Pressed in, never rubbed. The oil seals the work the cream started.

The decision

When to reach for the oil.

Not every day. Not all over. The oil is a finishing layer for the moments your skin actually needs it.

In winter, or in air-conditioning.

When the cream alone leaves your skin still feeling tight an hour later. Two pumps locks the moisture in.

The first three months post-partum.

When the skin barrier is most depleted from hormones, stretch and lost sleep. The oil's omega-7 is what restores it.

Over stretch-marked skin, at night.

Layered over the cream, the rosehip and bakuchiol carry on the texture work while you sleep.

i bought this because my whole body felt like the rest of me. the cream alone wasnt cutting it in january, my elbows had eczema patches, my belly felt tight even after the cream had absorbed. one pump of this on top at night and i can feel my skin holding water now. honestly its the layer that decides if i sleep well or not.

Squalane, sea buckthorn, rosehip CO2 in the first 5 ingredients. No fillers. The omega-7 from sea buckthorn is the only thing that has helped my barrier in the eight months since I gave birth. Bought it for my sister too.

I smell like nothing and my husband walked into the bedroom and asked what perfume I was wearing. Sir, there is no perfume. That is just my skin not crying.

Swapped out my La Mer Regenerating Body Cream for this. Side by side, the texture is comparable but the ingredient list here is stronger. Only feedback: the glass bottle is gorgeous but heavy for travel. Would pay for a 30ml travel size.

Bought this for severe winter dryness after my second baby. The cream alone left my skin tight by morning. The oil over the cream changed everything by week three. Now I dread running out, which is a sign.

Pharmacist here. Squalane and sea buckthorn are well-documented for barrier repair, and the omega-6 from evening primrose addresses the GLA deficiency common after delivery. Clean formulation, no problematic preservatives. Recommended to two post-partum clients already.

Good formula, works as a finishing layer over the cream. One issue: I wish there was a smaller travel size at this price point. The glass bottle is heavy for an overnight bag and I don't want to decant. Half a star off for that.

My partner was the one who noticed. He pointed at my elbow one morning and said "wait, that's healed?" I'd stopped checking. The barrier work is real, just slow. Three months of nightly use.

First baby I used Bio-Oil and grew to hate the smell. Second baby I'm using this and the difference is unbelievable. No perfume, no greasy residue, no questioning whether I should use it pregnant. Going to be hard to go back if there's a third.

Repeat customer, ordering for myself and recommending to clients on the maternity ward. The squalane base is gentler than mineral-oil-heavy alternatives, which matters for women with sensitised post-partum skin. One of the few products I trust enough to mention by name.

The Cut

Asked & answered.

Do I need this if I use the cream?

Only if your skin still feels tight after the cream has absorbed. The oil is a finishing layer for very dry days, winter, air-conditioning, or the first weeks post-partum when the barrier is most depleted. Not a daily requirement.

Will it stain my clothes?

Squalane and rosehip absorb cleanly with no residue. The amber colour from sea buckthorn can leave a faint tint on white silk if you dress immediately, wait 3-5 minutes for full absorption and it disappears.

Pregnancy-safe?

Yes, every active is register-cleared. The formula is mild enough to use through both trimesters and the fourth. The retinoic-acid precursors in rosehip are the natural form, not synthetic retinol, and considered safe at this concentration.

Can I use it on my face?

It's formulated for the body, heavier than what we'd recommend for the face. If you want something for your face we'd point you elsewhere. This is built for stretched, depleted body skin.

How long does the bottle last?

About three months at 2-3 pumps a night, used as a finishing layer. If you use it as a stand-alone oil it'll last closer to six weeks. Subscribers replenish every 12 weeks at 10% off.
